Job Title: Assistant Accountant

Salary: £35,837.74

Location: Telford or Stafford

Hours: 36 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term – up to 18 months 

 

About the role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a fixed-term basis. This role is key to supporting the delivery of accurate, timely and meaningful financial information that enables effective decision-making and contributes to the sound financial management of the Group.

Working closely with the Finance team, you will assist in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and year-end processes while developing strong relationships with budget holders across the organisation.

 

What you’ll be doing:

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely management accounts, ensuring variances are investigated, understood and clearly explained.
  • Support Accountants in providing budget holders with high-quality financial information and insight to aid informed decision-making.
  • Assist with year-end procedures, including audit preparation, completion of working papers and liaison with external auditors.
  • Contribute to the production and maintenance of financial reports to support effective business performance monitoring.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Planning

  • Support the annual budget-setting process, working collaboratively with budget holders and providing clear financial guidance and advice.
  • Assist in preparing in-year forecasts, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and supporting budget holders in managing budgets effectively.
  • Help ensure financial information is accurate, reliable and aligned with organisational objectives.

 

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • An understanding of financial controls and their importance in supporting good financial governance.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
